Meet Van Tran

Van Tran is a homegrown Orange County resident and has served the community for over 30 years. Currently, Van is the Chief of Staff for Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do and a Director of the Orange County 4th Water District (OCWD). Van previously served three full terms as a member of the California State Assembly from 2004 to 2010, representing much of this County Supervisor district. As a member of the California State Legislature, Van served as Chairman of the Select Committee on International Trade. Van’s election to the State Assembly was historic as Van is the first Vietnamese American to serve in any state legislature in the United States.

Before Van was a member of the California State Assembly, he served as a Councilman and Vice-Mayor of Garden Grove from 2000 to 2004 and a planning commissioner. 

Outside of public service, Van has a successful law practice and advises public officials and community leaders on issues that affect the communities of Orange County. Van has also been recognized with numerous awards for his civic leadership and contributions, demonstrating his commitment to serving Orange County.

Van received his bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of California, Irvine, and went on to earn both a master’s in public administration (MPA) and a Juris Doctorate (JD). He’s licensed to practice law in California and the U.S. District Court, Central District since 1994.

Van is married to Cyndi Tran and has three amazing children – Alex (15 yrs.), Sophie (14 yrs.), and Emma (6 yrs.)
